Standard Metrics Raises $20M to Power AI-Era Investing

Standard Metrics, the AI-driven portfolio management platform founded by John Melas-Kyriazi, Deny Khoung, and Kevin Hsu, has raised $20 million in a Series B round led by 8VC, with participation from Salesforce Ventures, Spark Capital, January Capital, First Trust Capital Partners, Socii Capital, Kindergarten Ventures, Calm Ventures, and Gaingels.

The Problem Hiding in Plain Sight

Private markets have a data problem few people outside the industry ever see: venture and private equity firms manage some of the most consequential capital in the economy while running portfolio reporting on spreadsheets, PDFs, and email threads. Standard Metrics set out to fix that with automated data ingestion, AI-powered analysis, and benchmarking tools that turn scattered portfolio data into something firms can actually act on - a genuinely unglamorous problem that happens to sit underneath every investment decision a fund makes.

Our mission at Standard Metrics is to accelerate innovation in the private markets. This Series B round is a vote of confidence from investors who believe, as we do, that the firms who embrace AI now will be the ones defining the next era of the private markets.

Why We Backed It

We invested in Standard Metrics at seed because the firms still running portfolio management manually were about to be at a structural disadvantage against those who weren't. Since founding in 2020, the platform has quietly become infrastructure for the industry it serves: more than 150 investment firms managing over $400 billion in assets now run their portfolio operations through Standard Metrics, underpinning more than 10,000 portfolio companies in the process. Three in ten investors on the Forbes Midas List use the platform - a level of penetration among the people who allocate capital for a living that's hard to fake and even harder to walk back from once it's earned.

What's Next

The new capital will go toward expanding the platform's AI capabilities, growing the team, and extending Standard Metrics to a wider base of private market investors and the portfolio companies they back. From where we sit - as both an investor in Standard Metrics and a firm that relies on exactly the kind of portfolio visibility it provides - this is a company solving a problem the entire industry has, whether or not it's willing to admit it yet. Congratulations to John, Deny, Kevin, and the Standard Metrics team.
